Any Gimp Users?

I downloaded gimp, an open source program similar to photoshop elements a couple months ago, and have been trying to use it with no prevail. I've basically got the hang of using it now though, and I've got a little problem.

This is an ending for a little vid I'm making, and I'm trying to put a couple of engy wrenches in beside my name. I used the 'fuzzy select tool' to select the wrenches modified them a bit, and put them in the original picture. They add in as new layers, and my problem is there's a little transparent box around the new layers. Any ideas?

Are the white boxes part of the same layer as your wrenches?

Gimp is totally unintuitive and hard to use. I prefer Paint.NET for free alternatives to photoshop.

Paint.NET is DAMN intuitive, I'm using it since I discovered it. I prefer it compared to GIMP.

Were the wrenches originally on a white background? Sometimes fuzzy select gets the alpha messed up. You could also upload the file, if you want someone like me to look at it. I've been a GIMP user for a long time.

And nobody should bash the GIMP. PS or Gimp, it's a matter of preference. Having used both, I can say that they are equally capable.
