I'm wondering something.

Let's say you take Random Newbie #1 and subject him to 400 hours as a Sniper.

By the end of those 400 hours will he be a significantly better Sniper, possibly on par with Durban, Snuts, Star and others we all know and despise?

Or does everyone have some inner limit to their capabilities at certain classes in games?

I would say that he would not become as good as the snipers you mentioned. Although he would become significantly better, i think you must have some kind of ability to be able to play the class as well as pro snipers.

I feel that it mostly depends on how well they can adapt and learn, but I also believe that some people do have limits to how well they can play with certain classes. As Snipers should be able to quickly zoom in and nail headshots, a player's reaction time and ability to estimate where the target is and will be, is important to their development as a Sniper. Someone can learn all the logic behind estimating running speed, anticipating location, and how to pay attention to your own surroundings, but if they inherently have a poor reaction time then they'll only be able to advance to a certain point unless they also work on increasing other skills.

"By the end of those 400 hours will he be a significantly better Sniper, possibly on par with Durban, Snuts, Star and others we all know and despise?"

Possibly.  Though those named players have probably put more than 400 hours into playing fps games and merely transitioned that skill to the new game.

I think that everyone is limited only by their reflexes, manual dexterity and their eyesight, the rest can be learned.  There's nothing keeping any of us from being the next pro master except time and dedication.

Learning from mistakes.  Lots of trial and error.  You have to WANT to be a good sniper.  All those things is what makes the actual difference.  Time is not the deciding factor.

Many people play for years and years and all they do is recreate the same mistakes over and over.

Yes, practice does make perfect. I don't know if it's more about time than it is about practice.

The amount of practice varies with each class.

I'm a Spy and at times, I'll have amazing days (Being able to get 30 backstabs on one map) and then other days it'll seem as if I just bought TF2 (Having 10 deaths and not a single kill). I still need time to know all the routes and shortcuts on maps, who I should avoid, and good strategies for taking down sentries+engies with offense buddies guarding their sentries. Oh, and medics. I need to learn how to successfully get those fidgety medics on first try.

Heck, I remember when I first got TF2, for the first month, I wouldn't even touch Spy because I thought his gameplay was so annoying and difficult. Now I find him as a fun (Also, frustrating) challenge with lots of reward.

You have to have the right mindset to get better. If you go into each game those 400 hours thinking "lololololololol boom hahaha everyones dying randomly rofl crit rocket killed you lmfao!" you won't get any better simply from having put the time in.

I agree with Chaos on the right mindset statement.  Also, you can't usually approach a situation the same way each time.  As a sniper, you may be able to tackle a situation just by being determined to use just one place to snipe from; however, most classes can't just go the same route over and over, especially spies.  This is one thing I don't like about alot of the "How to Play" videos.  They show you a strategy and when to apply it, but never give you alternate strats for the same situation.  Then, someone will take the video at face value and try it over and over in the same situation, probably get killed, and just keep trying.  So, practice can make perfect, as long as you change it up once and a while.
