Half-Life is $0.98 on steam through friday. I doubt I have to even explain why this is a good deal, so if you don't have it then go out and buy it now.

HL1 defined game of the year, back during a time when they didnt even do game of the years...

it is the epic of epics

still a great game today, but it lacks much that we expect from games today...like a proper story

I think the only reason they don’t give it away is because the 1$ price tag is funnier.

We should totally have a HL1: Deathmatch PUG, or a TFC pug. Just for nostalgia.

Half-Life Deathmatch was quite fun, but I guess the singleplayer experience was like something you had never seen before, and the inclusion of the Worldcraft editor made most people skip multiplayer altogether. Later on, multiplayer mods filled the void by the time people had enough of singleplayer and custom singleplayer maps.

Heh, I bought half life 1 the other day. It's not even the sourced version!  But still, it's awesome even though the graphics are really crappy. I love how you can shoot people, and then they shoot back, and then big turrets try to kill you, but it's still possible to take them all out and continue with the game.

Wait what? half life lacked a story? it was first person survival game of a day gone horribly wrong in some deep underground complex, it's hardly the best set up for a role playing experience. If you check the Wikipedia I think you will find that there is a lot of story behind half life, except much of it is interpretive according to the players, but the game includes just enough detail if you pay close attention to the environments you have to go through to assemble some coherent plot.

EDIT: as a side note, why do people bitch so much about old games having bad graphics? lots of really great and well known classics are more addictive than a lot of modern games. Fallout 1/2, Dues Ex, Planescape: Torment and System Shock 2 to name just a few.
