Me and my friend had this debate. We debated who was harder to play: Spy or Sniper.

Both require patience and timing, skill, both have instant kill moves, and both are used to take out incoming invansions and such.

I said Spy was harder since you had more challenges to face. You're going behind enemy lines, so you're putting yourself more at risk and more likely to die than a sniper. You need to know how to act, who to disguise as, where and when to cloak, etc.

My friend said Sniper was harder considering it took lots of skill just trying to get perfect headshots in a row, successfully helping the team, avoiding other snipers + spies, and figuring out the perfect spot to stand where you can easily get the enemy but they can't get you.

What do you think?

personally i think spy is much more difficult to be effective. especially for new players trying to avoid enemy contact, spy checks, etc.

if you've sniped in other fps games, you can transfer those skills to tf2 and be decent. to be a great sniper is a different story though.

for both classes though, knowing the maps and enemy patterns is crucial. but that's pretty much the case for any good players.

Spy.....o.O

Kind of obvious, since it's the most technical class.

Spy is more difficult to be effective.

But what is more effective, a super good spy or a super good sniper?

Spy is harder to survive as. Sniper is harder to kill with. Once you are in position as a spy its easy to get a kill, the hard part is getting in position. The opposite is sniper where it is easy to get in position but still hard to get the kill. Hard meaning taking a lot of practice.

Both have really high skill ceilings, so I can't really see a clear winner.

I'd have to say the Sniper's the harder class to play. The Spy gets his points from his enemy's unawareness. If every time the enemy turned around when you were going to plant a knife in their back, you'd be almost entirely shut down. A Sniper, on the other hand, can still be effective even if the enemy knows he's there. If a Scout or something surprises you, it's still possible to get the headshot, but the Spy can't backstab an aware enemy (sans facestab). The best Spy can only be so sneaky, but the best Sniper can always get the headshot.

Now that's a good question.

I would probably say a Spy would be more effective due to being able to take our sentries.

I don't know, I've seen Snuts pretty much single handedly win CTF matches before.

I would say a super good spy is more effective. e.g:

1 heavy, 1 medic, 2 demo and a engineer are coming down the 2fort bridge. A good sniper could probably take out 2 or even 3 if he is lucky but they will still get inside the base. Same scenario but a good spy is right behind them. Shank, shank, shank... you know the drill...
