This thread is designed to promote discussion of new and somewhat obscure tactics, as well as a means of asking for and giving small hints of advice. Have a question? Ask it here. Want to find out how to better tackle an Engineer farm? Never knew that cloaked illusions can actually make the enemy look for you in the opposite direction that your are actually going in, making do with little cloak? Want to know how to conserve cloak, or do without it?

I'll start with this, and add much more content soon. First off;

The Revolver is your trusty companion, and is your fallback weapon.
You've been in the situation before: you've been discovered, and he's coming after you. What should you do? Many spies instinctively cloak and try to make a run for it, but ultimately this is risky and will get you killed against good players. What enemies least expect is for you to fight back, and often this can catch them off guard to the point where they seriously underestimate your fighting abilities. Medics in particular think that they are invulnerable against spies so long as they aren't backstabbed first. However, many classes also share this mentality, and you should take advantage of it. When you know that a Medic is suspicious of you, you should not just run away as if he never saw you. You are committed, and you either go full attack or full escape. Given the Medic's weapons and speed, running might not be the better option. Sometimes, I get up close, calling for the medic. Many medics will think that they'll just wait and see if you run through them or not to see if you're a Spy, then kill you with the Ubersaw accordingly. I like to answer their suspicions before it gets to that: run all the way towards them (hopefully getting some medibuff in the process), slash them in the face or shoot them once, and then gun them down with the revolver while they are surprised. Good Medics will already have their ubersaw at the first sign of suspicion, so you should probably start shooting at them from a distance instead of getting close. Against good Medics, running after "discouraging" him with revolver hits is ussually the best option.

Don't ever underestimate the revolver,  and learn to use it effectively. It is good against both people and buildings. If your aim is good enough, you can even kill opponents in one on one fights when you've been discovered. Scoped snipers that have their backs against a wall can be safely dealt with with a few point blank revolver shots. By the time he realizes what's going on, he's already dead (unless he's Snuts or Durban, in which case you should crouch while firing, as they can twitch to your direction and headshot you without blinking, as they have eyes every 2 centimeters on their head.

More to come soon.

Whoops, clicked on the thread from the recent posts, didn't pay attention to what forum it was in. My bad.

I always see better Demos able to actively assault other players with stickies and get copious kills, but for me direct combat is far easier with pipes.

this is for spies mate

Never assume that your cover has not been blown.

Always assume that the enemy has seen through your disguise.

Never rely on your disguise.

Your disguise is a sentrymask, noobmask and something to slow your enemies reactions down only.

Don't go for stab chains, get one kill and bail. You can come back for other players later.
(This is situational, sometimes you can get stab chains on good players, but it is rare. Usually the above rule applies.)

[I am assuming that you are either in a scrim, war, pug or good pub. Otherwise these dont apply.]

Wait for an engineer to leave his sentry to get more metal, then shoot the sentry with your revolver from a distance. It's possible to destroy the sentry entirely.

Double negative

Actually, it is not a double negative.  Here, I'll be helpful.  Read this sentence:

"Assume that your cover has not been blown."

Now, append the word "never" to the front of that sentence.

Aren't you glad I'm here to help?

"Never" and "not" are both negative words, and a double negative is two negatives in one sentence, so it is.

The whole double negative thing is just anartifact of high-strung Elizabethan prescriptive grammarians. Double negatives can still make sense, many languages did and still do use them, and - utilized correctly - double negatives can add nuance to a sentence. Also, I'd like to send a shout-out to all my descriptive grammarians up in the hizzy.

Anyway, I would say that to assume your cover is blown is a bad idea; you've got to play the part, and sell it. Then again, I'm a terrible spy, for all my effort, so what do I know? Along the lines of waiting for an engineer to leave his sentry for metal, another okay tactic is to (in the case of non-present engineers) sap it, wait around a corner for the engineer to come - probably he didn't go too far away that he couldn't knock the sapper off in time - and take him out as he beelines for His Precious. Your results may vary.

Using the cloak to trick the enemy into thinking you're going a different direction is Incredibly Useful and Often Successful.

No, assume your cover is blown. It already is.

Cloaking and then trying to be tricky will work against somebody who is...not too aware.
