Hello, I'm pretty newbie to hammer and mapping at general, and this is going to be my first go with tf2. It's going to be arena map (cp at the top) and the basic construction is there. I'm thinking of adding ''sewer'' full of water, connecting the both sides. Does this have any potential?

is there any chance of a better screenshot? Cus it's a little hard to judge ont his alone. The idea sems to be there and the basic blocks are too but it will need to be tweaked for balance otherwise you might end up with one fo those horrible orange-esk maps.

It's a little hard to see what you have in mind by the picture, you may wanna sketch it out and post that instead, it would be easier to see exactly what you're intending and give advice.

And no, it's not going to be all orange. And the spawn rooms are going to have roofs Is it any clearer? I just wanna know if the map seems to be sucking. No idea making map that nobody likes.

Edit: I'm planning to make it on top of mountain so it's possible to fall from every edge. It's pretty small and simple but I'm going to add lots of things, don't worry.

As long as there are things breaking up the large open spaces I think it'd be ok.  I'm not sure a sewer system would be the way to go on it as I would personally focus on a more diverse above ground, but that's just me.

Yeah, I thought alternate route just would be cool, but maybe I'll add rooms on the big centre building or something. And yes, there will be some big and many small props. I know it may look horrible now, but it's like in 0.1 alpha now.

i think you should make one side of the map a large mountain (impossible to get on it, as like end of the map), and give the secondary way to the control point
a mine shaft look that goes trough the mountain.

its hard to design a good map,
because you never know how people will react.
make sure you test alot, its a good idea to invite some friends to help testing
remove or fix all OP engi or sniper camping places
and try to avoid spawn camping, (for instance, make 2 spawn room exits)
and this is my own opinion but maybe you should add a bit of water, not much, something like a bathtub or a mountain river
and i like the idea for a sewer, but make it look like a cave if you want a mountain themed map

OP? And yeah, I'm going to add two spawn exits lots of cover to make sniper's life harder. I don't think engineers are overpowered there, demos will probably take care of sentries pretty easily. And I like the mountain idea!

i think the cp would be better at the bottom of the house. this way, you either have the height advantage, or are capping. Now the ground floor isn't really usefull for anything.
You could make an exit out of spawn right unto the stairs (make the stairs all the way to spawn). this handles a lot of spawn camping trouble i think. Besides that, you'll still need two exits over the longg side.
