how can i get better at heavie cause they look like a really cool class but every time i play them i get killed fast any tips??

Many high-level players will say that playing Medic will make you better at playing Heavy based on the fact that as you get good at medic you will get good at dodging and making sure you are in the right place at the right time.
My advice to you is to practice a few techniques as you play:
1. Not so much a technique - Carry your shotgun when you're on the move, such as traveling from spawn to the front line on Gravel Pit. Having the minigun out is bad practice, since you will get killed by the spin-up time.
2. When attacking enemies, jump out from behind walls and spin up your gun. You will find that the minigun will be ready to fire almost as soon as you touch the ground. 3. When your gun is spinning, but no enemies are in decent damage-dealing range, make sure to pay attention to the rest of the battlefield, particularly behind yourself. 4. Always practice good teamwork. ** 5. Even when you have a medic, always know when to retreat. ~ Half Health is a good time to consider turning off the minigun and retreat with your shotgun. 6. Against other Heavys, whoever revs the minigun first will win, even when medics are around. Of course, this rule is superseded by random crit-streams. 7. Don't practice relying on medics all the time. That means you should learn to be self-sufficient and not expect a medic to be around waiting for your calls.
8. Practice. Even with the inclusion of random elements such as critical hits, this is a skill-based game, and getting better at any aspect simply takes a time dedication on your part. I always play on random pug servers for awhile, then seek servers with a higher skill threshold such as TF2F. Even though you may find yourself staring down the respawn screen a few times more than your liking, you will learn quite a bit in a short amount of time on such servers, though it is good to become familiar with the game elsewhere.

A few tips i could add to that:
Keep in tight spaces, open areas = death for heavies.
Sitting near a dispenser at a choke point can make an almost impenetrable defense, your ammo gets replenished faster than you can shoot it out.
The shotgun is more than just a mere sidearm, it is a different option. When at long range in open maps, it can sometimes be appropriate to fire the shotty as suppression or distraction.
When trying to cross a wide open area, equip the shotty and fire it at your enemies to keep them at bay. Your mini gun may seem like it will do more damage but you will make so slow, anyone could take you out.
Stick with other heavies. Lone heavies are no problem for experienced players, but tow or three heavies spells certain death for anyone in a hallway.
Communicate with your Medic. If you don't have a headset, get one, it makes the game so much more enjoyable, i picked up a decent one for under $20 U.S. at Wal-Mart. If you can't get a headset try to keep communication with your medic with typing and the quick text things (z,x,c).
Keep communication with your entire team. This is true for any class. Letting your team know where the sniper that just blew your head off is at could mean the match. This will be quite difficult without a headset/mic, because the info you give could be irrelevant by the time it gets to them.
And of course I agree with Maxx, practice is the best way to get better, experement with new possisions and paths. If you go one way and get killed over and over, change your ways.

As a heavy you have three main goals to achieve 1)Create chaos and direct the fire to yourself 2)Keep your medic alive 3)Kill people The reason I listed those off is they are what you should be aiming for as heavy. As for actual combat I highly recommend spinning in mid-air when you do a ctrl-jump so by the time you land sasha can fire. Once you are in combat try to mow down the closest enemies first unless you see a target of very high priority like a medic, spy (1 hit in back your dead) or sniper (they can take your head off). When you get into combat with demoman and soldiers your best bet is to try and close in before they know you are there or they can just play peek-a-boo and gib you anyways, they start doing this then back off as it's best to live then die. Your sensitivity should be very high so when you see a scout you can move faster than he can and you ultimately rip him to shreads before he does the same to your medic leaving you dead. As a heavy communication is very important. I would argue as much as a medic because he is always on the front lines and sees things the other classes might not know about yet. A good heavy is also always alert and looking around to make sure enemies don't overwhelm or flank you, you maybe have a lot of health but four-five stickies, four-five rockets, four-five scattergun shots etc and your dead. That isn't hard with a coordinated team so do your best to keep out of the line of sight of a group of enemies despite the fact that the heavy seems like a class that runs in yelling RUN COWARDS! and mows everyone down. If you get the flank on them it is another story, you can get 2-3 people if you get a good flank on the team but again make sure to pull back before you are dead. Now for the high risk classes. When you see a sniper the first thing you should do is alert your teammates and then shoot with shotty at him to mess up his aim while you and medic hit cover, if you are in actual combat try to quit combat as soon as you can and back off to a safer location after telling the medic to fall back. A dead heavy is worth less to a team then a dead medic. When a spy is spotted you need to drop everything and look around to make sure you don't see the friendly-neighborhood spy in kill-cam. If he gets in your line of sight mow him down or alert teammates and let them take care of your light work. Finally when you see medics the first thing that registers in your head should be "kill little coward"  , they need to die as they are the most important class in the game and can break stalemates with the uber, the more they die the less they can charge their uber so if you see a medic do your best to kill him, alert your team if he gets out of your reach and he is still nearby. This is my miniguide to the heavy, I don't claim that I know everything about him but this is how I play heavy. If you really wanna learn to play heavy I am sure NEKPED, Echo-Mending, Cascade, Milky, or Arlan-Kels would be willing to help you if you message them and ask for advice and possibly a demo.

If you're intending to stay in one position with your medic get him to look out for backstabbing spies or any other enemy, as Saint said communication is vital.

I actually agree with most of what Saint said, pretty good advice on the whole. I play a slightly more suicidal heavy, getting myself into the thick of things and taking a few out before I go. However I fully agree that your biggest focus should be on communicating with your medic, help him get the uber built up and tell him to GTFO when trouble is coming while you try to slow them down. You'll notice an increase in the plain and simple fact that medics will trust you and want to heal you more, thus letting you get away with more.
As far as attacking, obviously you want to get in relatively close to the enemy, but not too close, just outside of melee range is a good place to get any class as you can get excellent damage w/o them being able to dance around you to avoid fire. If you're playing with crits you can get away with slowly walking toward the enemy firing in hopes of getting a crit string, but more likely than not you'll be dead before it's much of an issue. Use the little mobility that you have to get yourself in good positions, then run, jump, and get Sasha into her twirl of death and lay waste to people. I usually aim for center of mass on my target just to try to get as many rounds on them as possible. But again, like Saint said, you want to try to sow confusion in their ranks, nothing is scarier than a heavy barreling down at you with a medic at his back, well nothing except a one-armed circus midget.
The 3 classes you want to watch for are spy, sniper, and demo. Each of those can wreck your day fairly well, though the demo is a little easier to deal with if he's close enough, but a good demo is a PAIN. Do your best to be concious of the strong points for these classes so that you can be on your guard. There should be almost no time that you're out in the open with your gun spinning if a sniper is in the area, you're simply asking to have your skull cleaned. Instead make your way to safer grounds, jumping around w/ the shotty, to a place where the sniper has to work to get you. As far as spies are concerned you simply have to be paranoid, shoot anything that moves and try to look behind you at random times.
