I Am new, have no clue about how to make a map, but there is something I want to suggest.

Is there a way that I could make a map that combines the concept of steel (the fact that capping affects the map) and the look and feel of gravelpit (buildings and tullels, you just kinda get the feel) and make a symetric map likke that that would be either

A standard cp map but with moveable map like steel

B as above, but capping doesn't win, there is intel, capping just changes enviroment, nothing more. the goal is ctf

so far my only idea for layout (THIS IS EXTREMELY OPEN TO SUGGEXSTIONS)
is like 2 gravel pits facing each other, with the spawn and a and b on each side, and c is the center point, and there is a side path from red A to BLU A, and RED B to BLU B , with a for type thing in the center of each path , and a one way exit from the sides to the middle point.

Ill open up gimp and draw it later.

so is this a good idea? how do u even make a  map?

any suggestions?

u can make maps using the hammer editor thats included with tf2. it can be downloaded through steam in the tools tab i believe under source sdk. im not sure if it is possible to do this as i dont know if u can mix gametypes like that. however it may be possible to create areas that function like cap points without actually being them. ask big lou as he seems to be the local mapping genious and really helped me with whatever i needed

oh just like to add that i am pretty novice myself and my maps looks like crap. actually my new one looks awesome but i cant light it right. k now im rambling but good luck and let me know if theres anything i can help with

This idea is pretty cool, though two gravelpits is probably way too big. But i like the idea of capping for better acces to the intel.
Maybe it can be a one way cap. with one team defending. And a couple of points to change the environment.

Making a map can be crazy hard - especially if your creating something 'off the wall' , like your idea seems to be.
I'd recommend reading through this and trying a basic ctf/cp map first.
If you do figure out how to make your map, size is very important. I would say Gp is as large as you could go with a ctf map, before it becomes to spread out. If your going to have 2 Gp's facing each other, consider having 2 Point A's (not the one in the large shack type thing) or something of an equal/smaller size.

The main reason I am making this is because 'm kind of sik of atk/def map where one side uually has an advantage like, how often does blue captre point d in steel? I just want it even with lots of mini 'forts' and Lots of routes and Strategic decision......

circly scribbles mean cps and their area and shacks, building exct. there is a base at top and bottom, and strategic positions in the sides....each of which has passages to the center arena--one way? or should it be to the two closest to it? also the blobs at top and bottom are 2fort like bases with intel.....
man I hope the map editor is easier to use than gimp, cuz im hating gimp....
